CAREER PLANNING AND CAREER MANAGEMENT AS CORRELATES FOR CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND JOB SATISFACTION
A CASE STUDY OF NIGERIAN BANK EMPLOYEES

The notion of empowering human capital to onset creativity and innovation through planning the careers of institutional members using HRM policies and practices to develop different mindsets, skills and competencies with the ultimate aim to provide a range of innovative products and services is attracting attention. This paper explores the link between career planning and career management as antecedents of career development and job satisfaction, and career commitment as its outcome. A sample of 505 employees of a Nigerian Bank revealed the significant link between the variables of career planning and career management, and career development, and in turn, with job satisfaction and career commitment. The paper discusses the implications of these findings for career development.

Many contemporary organizations are placing a greater emphasis on their performance management systems as a means of generating higher levels of job performance. We suggest that producing performance increments may be best achieved by orienting the performance management system to promote employee engagement. To this end, we describe a new approach to the performance management process that includes employee engagement and the key drivers of employee engagement at each stage. We present a model of engagement management that incorporates the main ideas of the paper and suggests a new perspective for thinking about how to foster and manage employee engagement to achieve high levels of job performance.

Impact of Cultural Intelligence Level on Conflict Resolution Ability: A Conceptual Model and Research Proposal

Cultural intelligence and conflict resolution ability are essential for 21st-century leaders when considering the increased interaction with individuals from different cultural backgrounds that is now prevalent due to the technological advances of the internet and improved modes of mobility (Templer, Tay, & Chandrasekar, 2006). With increased frequent interactions, there is greater opportunity for cultural differences to create conflict (Kaushal & Kwantes, 2006). New global skills must be acquired to be an effective leader in the 21st century (Robinson & Harvey, 2008). In response to literature gaps, this model suggests a 2X2 factorial design to test to see if cultural intelligence levels predict the appropriate conflict resolution strategy adoption, thus the conflict resolution ability.

Abstract: This paper attempts to propose a conceptual framework consisting of three human resources management (HRM) practice (supervision, job training, and pay practices), job satisfaction, and turnover, and to explain the relationships among these variables. Job satisfaction played an important role to employees’ turnover because it would lead employee resigned when their job satisfaction is low. The results indicate HRM practice a positively and significantly correlated with job satisfaction. On the other hand HRM practice and job satisfaction are negatively and significantly correlated with turnover. However, the results of HRM practice and job satisfaction are strong predictors of turnover.

The analysis of organizational creativity in schools regarding
principals’ ethical leadership characteristics

This study aims to examine the influence of ethical leadership behaviors on organizational creativity in schools. The study was conducted between 2008 and 2009 with 527 teachers who worked in primary schools in Konya region of Turkey and who were chosen with the random cluster exemplification method. The results of the study showed that a significant relationship was found between organizational creativity and the ethical leadership behaviors of principals regarding the dimensions of environmental ethic, ethical decision making and behavioral ethic. School administrators’ behavioral ethic and environmental ethic dimensions explain organizational creativity in schools significantly.
